I agree exactly with what jim said if it did good with the carboard and jim is also right if it took a while to sharpen it back up it should be fairly hard...I would still look into getting a brass rod around 3/16 or somewhere around there and running the test again...I have always been able to get deflection no matter if it was to soft to hard or just right...just run the test in the futre when you have a smaller rod...
