number 4
This, my 4th knife completed, was a disaster!
I ground it too thin and warped it during HT. Then I snapped off the tip trying to fix it. I broke the handle in three places during clamping and ground a hair too much off the wood in the index-finger groove. Jeeze.
This was also my first attempt at FC etching and I just kinda guessed at it. I did a few dips to test times and temp. I wound up grinding back down to steel, finishing the handle with pins and epoxy and just dipping the whole thing in the FC. I nuetralized with Windex, but it still darkened a bit more than I wanted.
Other firsts were: tapered tang and use of exotic hardwood.
I reckon it'll make a good light duty pocket knife, or a gift for one of the ladies in the family.
