Question convert woodcutting bandsaw to metal

Greetings out there!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am just getting into knifemaking, and have a question for you toolfreaks.

I have an old Sears 12" woodcutting bandsaw that I want to convert to metal-cutting. To slow down the blade speed enough, it seems to me that I really need to add two sets of intermediate pulleys and belts between the motor and the saw. I can't use just one set of intermediate pulleys, as the available pulley sizes just won't slow the blade down enough, or I'd have to use pulleys about the size of tractor tires! So, two sets of step-down pulleys seems necessary.

I really want to use this particular bandsaw, and not buy a metal cutting saw. I already have a better woodcutting bandsaw that I want to keep for only use with wood. And Sears does not carry any kind of speed reducer for this old saw.

So, anyone have ideas or similar experience that might help?
