No I haven't tried a kit I was wanting to make it entirely myself the same way I have been doing with the full tang knives I have made.. so there isn't a kit I am having trouble with just looking a template that I can print and glue onto some plywood and cut on the bandsaw to make a template that I can use and keep for future knives then use the ply template to draw the outline onto some flat ground steel stock.. cut out, grind, bevel, heat, temper, finish etc.
But now that you have mentioned kits which had never crossed my mind before I might just try one and use that as my learning base to get the awkward bits of a folder worked out and then just scale the sizes up and down as required.
