"Life Aboard the Ship"
We made a stop at Guantanamo Bay,Cuba, to unload some navy guys and marines,and sailed
on down to San Juan,P.R..Since it was Sunday, they said anybody that wanted to attend church services could disembark and go to church...Me and a friend decided to disembark-but instead of
going to church, we headed for the bar....stayed a couple of hours and stumbled back aboard ship.
The guy at the gangplank knew what was going on, 'cause we weren't the only ones.
It was the first time I'd ever seen dolphins or flying fish, so many new things to experience.
The ship was the USNS Geiger, a troop transport that had seen a lot of service...I was one happy
camper to get on dry land...Oh, almost forgot-when we got outside the 3 mile limit, I could buy
a carton of smokes for $1.30 cents..I think they were a whopping $4.50 stateside....
