Randall Kit Knife

I was looking for a delrin handled Model 5 and a friend who deals in knives, although not many RMK, was looking for me. He thought this particular knife had a delrin handle, so I bought it.

Turns out it is not delrin, but white micarta. What is unique is the SS blade has a W etched just to the right of the RMK stamp. Thanks to a learned friend, I looked on the Intersquare CD and found out about RMK marked with a W.

From RKS newsletter dated May 1999. Paraphrased: "Gail White first met "Bo" Randall in 1957. Gail bought a Model 20 blade in the early to mid 1960's and finished the knife. When Gail showed the completed knife to "Bo", "Bo" told Bill Platts that Gail could have the blades that he wanted.

From that time, until the late 1980's, Gail White made 65 Kit knives, with only about 6 being marked with "Kit". He and Gary decided in the late 1980's to start marking his blades with a "W".

As of May 1999, Gail has made 37 knives with the "W" and total of 102".

The spacer appears to be micarta, of a brownish hue. It is one solid piece, not a few pieces put together.
Now after looking at my pics, I will have to look at the spacer again, in one pic it seems to be more than one piece.

Now that I have been looking through my pics, I will attach a pic of another Kit knife I bought in Atlanta. It used to belong to Rhett. I had seen the knife at his table at Blade in the past. The handle is far from standard.
