"The San Blas Indians"
Some mornings the only thing that keeps me typing is the knowledge that I'm gaining experience
and I need the money...True,it can be considered a mere pittance to some,but HEY! a penny ain't
nothin' to sneeze at...only takes a hundred of them to make a dollar. You guessed it, I'm stalling again....wait a minute! I'll tell you about a race of people not many folks know about.
The Kuna Indians live on the San Blas Islands in the Archipelago, what ever that is....These
people worked on the Army bases in the Canal Zone(Panama).They did the KP work,shoeshine,
tailor, and general custodial work in our barracks.We would be deducted a small amount from our pay
in order to pay them.They also would get to load up all the leftovers from meals .They would put
the food in large containers and take it back to the island on the ferry.
They were a short,stocky people who loved to play softball...I became a very good pitcher
at the urging of Col. Martin, but had a hell of a time with the strike zone.It was hard to throw it that low.....
